If you should die without ade quate insurance whose wife will your wife he washing and scrubbing for in six months from now? If it keeps you hustling all the time to make a living for your family now how, do you suppose your wife will get along after you are gone. Henry! Tba two pa para have baan margad and will ba publitbad in tba futura under tba nama of Advocate. PRESTO CHANGE Tba Amaricaa Purchases Good Will and Subscription List of Artotia Adrocata and will taka Advocate's Nana. These are days of lightning changes. Just a year ago the Advocate was the only paper in Artesia. A.

W. Henry, the owner, had guided its destinies for years. Rut one fine morning along came a man and his wife by the name of Hollister and leased the pa per and plant for one year. The Hoi. isters not printers or newspaper people and the Advocate grew en aemic in appearance.

Early in the year a new star ap peared in the newspaper firmament It was the 'American and it came be cause it was sadly needed. This was a jolt that caused the Advocate to fall down on the home stretch and the lease was surrendered to its own er, Mr. Henry, two weeks before its expiration. Now Mr. Henry is a mechanical genius.

He applied a pull-motor to his dying child, and with assistance ffbm the American office pulled off the- next number only 72 hours be -Hind Hut the legals, of which there were several escaped death. Of course the American had a cov etous eye on the Advocate all this time. It cared nothing for its circulation but desired its name and good will in order to make the American a "legal" paper. Again the people here naturally felt that.me paper was enough to cover this field and deplored the existence of two. The American was started to supply one want, and felt that if it could amalgamate the two papers it would be supplying another want.

And So the American -on Feb. 10, purchased of Mr. Henry the name, good will, and subscription list and some of the machinery of the Advocate. It also rented his linotype until a new one can be delivered to take its place. All this done, the name was the next thing to settle.

The American was only four weeks old, and while it hid aquired a bona fide subscrip-tionlist of over 600 in that time it had not been given the privilege by Mr. Rurleson's hired men of second class postage rates, and it would- be six months befora it could' become a legal paper. To hyphenate the name and call it American-Advocate under such cir. cumstances seemed too much like the tail trying to wag the dog. For these and other reasons the word American was dropped and Advocate substituted.

Everything pertaining to the two papers will be embraced the Advocate. TO OUR SUBSCRIBERS All subscribers to the Advocate or American, or both, wilt be carried on the Advocate book to the expiration of the time to which they have paid For instance if a person paid for a year for the American and bat art unpaid subscription of 6 months to the Advocate he will get the Advocate 18 months. The books win be adjusted and 'revised as soon as pos-sible. All who receive a paper this week and none next week will know "that their subscription has expired."
